What is FromScratch?
FromScratch turns a plain-language description into a working website or web app, built step by step by an AI agent you chat with.
On this page
FromScratch is an AI app builder. You describe the website or web app you want in a chat, an AI agent builds it in its own workspace, you watch the result in a live preview, and when you are happy you put it online. You don't need to write code — you need an idea and a few minutes to answer the agent's questions.
What you get
FromScratch doesn't stop at a pretty screen. Each project is a real application:
- A front end — the pages your visitors see, designed for desktop and phone.
- A back end and data — forms that actually save, lists that come from a database, content you can change. The gallery templates already work this way: a waitlist that records sign-ups, a restaurant site that takes table reservations, a dashboard whose figures are computed from real orders.
- Online shops — the « E-commerce site » template is a full store with a cart, a checkout, customer accounts, orders and a store admin. See Create an online store.
Everything lives in a private workspace for your project. The agent writes the files, runs the app and checks its own work by taking screenshots of the preview.
How it works, in four moves
- Describe. On the Home page, type your idea in the box under « What do you want to build? », or start from a template.
- Agree on a plan. The agent's first reply asks up to three questions and proposes a short plan of 3 to 6 steps. Nothing is built yet: you review it and click Approve and start step 1.
- Build step by step. The agent does one step per reply, reports what changed with a ✅, and waits. You look at the preview, ask for changes, or click Next step.
- Publish. When it looks right, click Publish: your site gets a public HTTPS address you can share. Publishing is part of the Starter and Pro plans.
The full journey is described in The chat-to-publish flow.
Who it is for
FromScratch is made for people who have something to build and no team of engineers: founders testing an idea, freelancers making sites for clients, shop owners, associations, and teams that need an internal tool. The agent talks about what you see on your site, not about code.
Developers are welcome too. On Starter and Pro you can open the Code view to read and edit the source, export the project as a ZIP or push it to a GitHub repository, and drive FromScratch from your own software with the developer API.
What makes it different
- It works with you, not instead of you. The agent asks before assuming, offers options as clickable buttons, and stops after each milestone so you stay in control.
- Nothing is lost. Every change the agent makes is saved as a version you can go back to. See Versions: undo anything.
- Real stores, not mock-ups. Shops take real orders and, once you connect Stripe, real card payments.
Note
FromScratch builds websites and web apps that run in the browser, on a computer or a phone. Everything you see in the preview is what your visitors will get once you publish.
What it costs
You can start for free: a new account receives welcome credits to build and preview a first project. Each reply of the agent uses credits depending on the work it did. Putting a site online, using your own domain, attaching files and the premium AI models are part of the paid plans, and Starter can be tried for free without a card. The details are in How credits work and Plans and the free tier.
FAQ
Do I need to know how to code?
No. You describe what you want in everyday words and react to what you see in the preview. Coding knowledge helps only if you want to read or edit the source yourself.
In which language can my site be?
Any language you ask for. The FromScratch interface itself is available in English and French, and the agent replies in your interface language.
Can I take my code with me?
Yes, on Starter and Pro: Export gives you a ZIP of the full source code or pushes it to GitHub.
