Use your own domain
Connect a domain name you own (like app.yourbusiness.com) to your published site: attach it, add one DNS record, and get HTTPS automatically.
On this page
Every published site gets a free address on our domain. When you're ready to look fully professional, you can connect a domain name you own — for example www.yourbakery.com or app.yourbusiness.com. It takes a few minutes of your time, plus the time it takes for DNS to update.
What you need
- A published site. A custom domain points to your live deployment, so publish first — see Publish your site.
- A Starter or Pro plan. Custom domains are included in both.
- A domain name you own, bought from any registrar (OVH, Gandi, GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare…), and access to its DNS settings.
Step 1 — Attach the domain in FromScratch
- Open your project and click Domain in the top bar.
- Under Custom domain, type the exact hostname you want visitors to use, for example
app.yourdomain.com. Type only the name — nohttps://, no slash, no path. - Click Attach.
FromScratch confirms Domain attached — add the DNS record, then it will go active, and the status shows Pending. The DNS configuration box shows what to add next.
Step 2 — Add an A record at your registrar
In the DNS settings of your domain (at your registrar or DNS provider), create one record:
| Type | Name / Host | Value / Points to |
|---|---|---|
| A | the part before your domain (e.g. app, or www) — or @ for the bare domain |
the IP address shown in the Domain menu |
Save it. If an older A or CNAME record already exists for the same name, remove or replace it, otherwise the two will conflict.
Note
The IP address to use is shown in the Domain menu under DNS configuration. If no address is shown, contact us and we'll give it to you.
Step 3 — Wait for it to go active
DNS changes take a little time to spread across the internet — often minutes, sometimes a few hours. Once your domain points to us, FromScratch issues a TLS certificate automatically (usually within a few minutes), so your site works in HTTPS. The status changes from Pending to Active, and you get a notification.
Your site stays available on its free address too.
Change or remove the domain
Open Domain again:
- Update — replace the domain with another one (then update your DNS record accordingly).
- Remove — detach the domain. Your site stays online at its free address.
Tip
Want both
yourbakery.comandwww.yourbakery.com? Attach the one you'll share with customers. Many registrars offer a free redirect from the other name to it.
If the status shows Error or stays Pending
- Check the record is an A record (not CNAME) with the exact IP shown.
- Check the name: for
app.yourdomain.comthe host isapp, not the full name (most registrars add the domain themselves). - Make sure the domain isn't already attached to another project — a domain can only point at one site.
- Wait a little: DNS can be slow. If it's still not active after a day, contact us with the domain name.

FAQ
Do I have to buy the domain through FromScratch?
No. You buy it wherever you like and keep full control of it. You only add one DNS record.
Is HTTPS included?
Yes. The certificate is issued and renewed automatically once the DNS points to your site.
Does my site keep working while the DNS updates?
Yes, on its free address. The custom domain starts working as soon as the DNS change has spread.
