Every FromScratch project follows the same path: you describe, you agree on a plan, the agent builds one step at a time, you adjust, and you publish. Knowing the stages helps you understand what you see on screen and when your input is needed.

1. Describe your idea

On the Home page, type your idea in the box under « What do you want to build? » — or pick a template under « Or start from a template ». Before sending you can choose:

  • the AI model (the « Model: » selector; premium models are part of the paid plans),
  • the Site theme, Light or Dark, when you start from a template,
  • the folder the project lands in: new projects are created in the active folder of the sidebar.

Sending creates the project. Creating a project uses some credits and one of your plan's project slots.

2. The workspace starts

Each project gets its own private workspace where the app runs. The first time, the chat shows « Preparing your workspace » — it takes about a minute — and your message is sent automatically as soon as it is ready. Later, after a pause, you may see « Waking up your workspace »: same thing, faster.

3. The agent asks and proposes a plan

The agent's first reply does not build anything. It sums up what it understood, asks up to three questions if something is unclear (often with clickable answer buttons), and proposes a plan of 3 to 6 steps. Each step is something you will be able to see in the preview: a page, a feature, a restyle.

The plan appears as « Proposed plan — review it ». You can edit a step, remove one, or dismiss the plan entirely and just chat. When it suits you, click Approve and start step 1. Details in Approve the plan, step by step.

4. One step per reply

The agent now works on the current step: you see its activity as cards (reading, writing, running, taking screenshots) and the preview updates live. When the step works, it reports with a ✅ and stops. Then you choose:

  • click Next step to continue the plan,
  • type a change (« make the header smaller », « the button should be green »),
  • click Skip to drop a step you no longer want,
  • or click Go back here on a finished step to return to the site as it was at that point.

Note

a single reply has a limit on steps and credits. If the agent reaches it, it pauses with « ⏸️ Pausing here » and everything done so far is saved: reply « continue » to resume. See How credits work.

5. Iterate freely

Once the plan is complete (« Plan complete »), keep chatting to refine anything. Every change made by the agent becomes a version in Versions, so you can always go back. Check the result on phone width with the Mobile switch above the preview.

Example prompt
On the home page, replace the big photo by a short video-style animation of our product, and move the pricing section just under it.

6. Publish

When the site looks right, click Publish in the top bar (Starter and Pro). FromScratch builds a production version of your app and puts it online at its own HTTPS address; the button then shows « Live » and opens your site. After later changes, click Republish — the live site never changes on its own. See Publish, republish, unpublish.

7. Grow it

  • Attach your own domain with Domain — see Use your own domain.
  • Add secret keys for external services in Variables — see Environment variables.
  • For a shop, connect Stripe in Payments to take card payments.

FAQ

Can I skip the plan and ask for something small?

Yes. For a small, clear change (a colour, a typo, one button), the agent does it directly and reports. Plans are for anything bigger.

What if I close the browser during a step?

The work continues on our side and is saved. When you come back, open the project: the chat shows where things stand.
