Approve the plan, step by step
How the agent's plan works: review and edit the steps, approve, run one step at a time with Next step, skip a step or go back to an earlier one.
On this page
FromScratch builds your project the way a good freelancer would: it proposes a plan, you agree on it, and then it delivers one visible piece at a time and checks in with you. The plan appears above the chat composer as a checklist you control.
Why a plan first
Building a whole site in one go is how AI tools end up with something that looks finished but isn't what you wanted. So for any request that isn't a tiny fix, the agent's first reply makes no changes to your project. Instead it proposes three to six steps, each one a milestone you can see in the preview — "home page with hero and services", "booking form that saves requests", "contact page and footer"…
Review the proposed plan
When the agent proposes a plan, a card titled Proposed plan — review it appears. Read the steps: each has a short title and sometimes a detail line.
- Edit step — change the wording of a step, for example to add "with a photo gallery" or to say "in French".
- Remove step — drop a step you don't need. The plan must keep at least one step.
- Dismiss this plan — throw the plan away and keep chatting freely with the agent instead.
You can also simply reply in the chat ("merge steps 2 and 3", "add a blog at the end") and the agent will rework the plan.
Looks good, but put the booking form before the services page, and add a last step for a simple FAQ.Approve and run step 1
When the plan suits you, click Approve and start step 1. The agent starts working on the first step only. While it works, the plan shows the step as In progress and the guide line says what it is doing.
When the step is finished, the agent:
- checks its work once (often by taking a screenshot of the preview),
- marks the step Done,
- writes a short ✅ report of what changed and what comes next,
- and stops.
That pause is your moment to look at the preview. The plan tells you: step done — check the preview, then click Next step to start the following one, or type a change.
Next step, or a change first
You have two choices after each step:
- Click Next step to launch the following step.
- Or type a change in the chat — "make the buttons rounder", "the phone number is wrong" — and the agent fixes it before you move on.
If a step stopped before it was complete (for example because the reply reached its per-message limit), the button reads Continue step 2 (with the right number). Click it and the agent finishes the step where it left off.
Note
Each reply has a step limit and a credit limit set by your plan. When the agent reaches one, it pauses cleanly, everything is saved, and you continue with one click. See Watch it build.
Skip a step
Changed your mind about a step? Click Skip on it. FromScratch asks you to confirm, because the agent won't do that step. The step shows as Skipped and the plan moves on.
Go back to an earlier step
Each finished step is also a checkpoint. If a later step took the site somewhere you don't like, click Go back here on the step you want to return to. After you confirm:
- your site goes back to exactly how it was right after that step,
- the changes made since are undone — but not lost: they stay in the version history,
- the following steps go back to To do, so you can run them again (or edit them first).
This is the same safety net as the Versions panel, applied to your plan. See Versions: undo anything.
Warning
You can't go back or skip while the agent is working. Wait for it to finish (or press Stop in the chat) first.
When the plan is complete
After the last step, the plan shows Plan complete. All steps are done: keep chatting freely to polish things, or close the plan. A good next move is to test everything in the preview, then publish your site.
Statuses at a glance
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| To do | Not started yet |
| In progress | The agent is working on it, or it was paused mid-way |
| Done | Finished and checked; you can go back to it |
| Skipped | You chose not to do it |
FAQ
Can I talk to the agent without a plan?
Yes. Click Dismiss this plan and chat freely. Small, clear requests ("change the title colour") are done straight away without a plan.
What if I run out of credits in the middle of a plan?
The plan stays where it is. The guide tells you that you don't have enough credits to run the next step; once you have credits again (upgrade, or your monthly renewal), come back and continue.
Can the agent change the plan by itself?
It can rewrite the remaining steps when what's left has to change, but finished steps never change.
