AI models and your plan
Which AI model builds your project, how to switch it, why some models are Premium or cost more credits, and what happens when one is not on your plan.
On this page
The agent that builds your site runs on an AI model. FromScratch lets you choose that model per project, and the list you see depends on your plan. This page explains the labels in the model pickers and what to do when a model is not available to you.
Where you choose the model
- When you create a project — on the Home page, the « Model: » selector under the composer. « Default » is the platform's recommended model.
- In an existing project — the model selector in the project's top bar, whose tooltip reads « AI model (applies on the next message) ». The switch takes effect on your next message: no restart, nothing to rebuild, and the conversation continues where it was.
What the labels mean
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| default | The model used when you don't pick one. |
| « Included in your plan » | You can use it with your current plan. |
| Premium | Part of the paid plans (Starter and Pro). |
| 🔒 + « Unlock with Starter or Pro » | A premium model shown to a Free account. Picking it opens the upgrade dialog instead of selecting it. |
| « ×{n} credits » | The model uses more credits per reply than the default one (×2 = twice as many for the same work). |
The list of models is managed by the FromScratch team and can change over time as new models arrive. Your picker always shows what is available to you right now.
How the model affects credits
A reply costs credits according to the AI work it did, multiplied by the model's multiplier. A more powerful model can solve a hard request in fewer replies, but each reply may cost more. For everyday changes the default model is usually the best balance. See How credits work.
Tip
try a premium model when the agent struggles with something complex (a tricky layout, a feature with many rules), then switch back to the default for small edits.
« Model not available on your plan »
You may see this message when creating a project or changing its model with a model your plan doesn't include — for example after your plan changed. To fix it:
- Open the model selector and pick a model marked « Included in your plan » (or the default).
- Or upgrade to Starter or Pro from the Billing page to use premium models.
If your plan changes while a project is set to a premium model, the project keeps working: on each message FromScratch uses the project's model only if your plan allows it, otherwise the default model (or the first model you are allowed to use).
Shared projects
When someone shares a project with you as an editor, the model follows the owner's plan: the project owner's access decides which model actually runs.
What the plan changes beyond models
Models are one of several things your plan decides: monthly credits, the number of active projects, publishing, custom domains, file attachments, the code view, export and the developer API. A per-message credit and step cap also depends on the plan. See Plans and the free tier.
FAQ
Does changing the model lose my work?
No. Files, versions and the conversation stay as they are; only the next replies use the new model.
Why is the reply quality different after switching?
Each model has its own strengths. If you're unhappy with a result, describe precisely what's wrong, or go back with Versions and try again with another model.
Can I use my own AI account?
Not from the model picker: the models available are the ones listed there.
